This is the first time I've purchased a cover for a Kindle other than Amazon's covers.When I opened the package the first thing I notice is the heft of the cover.It is solid.The next is the feel of the leather.It has a firm but cushioned feel that gave me the impression that I bought the right thing.The coloration is very consistent throughout the cover and the fit and finish is great.The stitching, which is more of a saddle color for contrast, is tight and is placed well on the product.Other leather items I've purchased do not keep a consistent distance from edges.This product's stitches maintain their "line" even around the rounded corners.
The suede leather in the interior of the cover is soft and neutral toned (gray).I feel confident it will protect my investment.Also on the interior of the cover is a pen holder (very nice), a pocket for the M-Edge E-Luminator light (due to be sold sometime this summer), two pockets for business cards or whatever, and a large pocket for possibly storing papers (although a standard sheet of paper is too large).
The mounts for the Kindle are solid and non-obtrusive.They hold the Kindle solidly and about 3/8" away from the edge of the cover for protection.
The closure strap is very nice.It holds the case closed securely and then flips around backwards and inserts back into the same pocket to form the easel.I tested the "easel" operation and found it to be stable and it holds the Kindle at a good angle that limits reflection.While the cover was holding the Kindle in "easel mode" I was able to use the buttons and the 5 way controller comfortably and never felt like the Kindle would fall over.It felt very stable.
When holding as a book I prefer the platform (or top hinged) cover to the left hinged cover for the Kindle DX.The DX is a good deal wider than the original or latest Kindle and the standard fold feels too wide.I fold the top all the way over and tuck the strap below.The cover creates a comfortable platform to read that is not too wide and the cover adds twice to three times the thickness of the Kindle DX which is more comfortable to me.
Overall I really like this product.The fit, feel, function and amenities make this a product worth the price.
