Review of Clear LCD Screen Protector for Amazon Kindle 1& 2 E-Book Reader

I was sorry I bought the screen protectors. I bought two sets of them for two Kindles. I had so many problems putting the first set on, they had to go in the trash and that left me paying for two and able to use one. My daughter finally had to put it on for me and she's very good at this, since she covers all of our phones and cameras with screen protectors. However, even she had a problem getting this one on the Kindle. It still has a bubble near the bottom, but I will leave it, so I can protect the front. However, I would not buy them again. I am sorry I spent the money.

Review of M-Edge GO! Genuine Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle), Fuchsia

I wanted a cover for my Kindle, but wasn't thrilled with the black kindle cover.I searched on Amazon and found quite a few covers, but didn't want to spend close to $50 just for a case. Then I came across this cover. It is similar to the black cover that is offered from Amazon (the one on the Kindle page), but in more colors. It has the same hinge attachment, but also has two straps to hold the outer two corners of the Kindle in place (for added security).
Another thing to note is that the color of the case is alittle bit darker than it shows on the picture.I was going back and forth if I should order this color because it looked so light in the picture and I was worried about it getting dirty.I'm so glad I ordered the Fushia!!

Review of Amazon Kindle DX Leather Cover (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX)

This is the same cover design that is currently used for the Kindle 2.Since I also own the Kindle 2, I did not hesitate to order this cover again for the Kindle DX.(For the record, I own both which and the cover arrived this morning along with my new Kindle DX)

The thing that made me go for this cover over the M-Edge series is that it has discreet clips that fasten directly into the kindle and are very secure. It is similar to the mechanism that Sony uses for the PRS-505 and I find it very unobtrusive without having to deface the Kindle with velcro etc.

HOWEVER it should be cautioned that this hinge mechanism has the potential to crack your the front faceplate kindle if you do not open the cover from the front (don't try to open it from the back as the hinge only allows the cover to open fully one way). However, the people that had this problem with the Kindle 2 were reported the problem to Amazon and they replaced the Kindle.I personally have not had this problem, though but it is something to be aware of.

The thing I really like about this cover is the feel of the inside which is what you wind up holding the most while you are reading. It is a very soft luxurious feeling grey flannel. The front cover folds back on itself (like a paperback) so you wind up just holding something that is just as wide as the kindle itself (i.e. not "double-width" like an open binder). The flannel lining sounds like a little thing. However, reading is often about the "curling up with a good book in a cozy chair" experience and the flannel reminds you of your most comfy flannel PJs and the lining adds to that perception.

The leather of the cover, itself is not of great quality but it looks decent. There are also firm foam inserts inside the front and back cover to keep the screen protected.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the cover.

Review of Sony PRS-300RC Digital Reader Pocket Edition in Rose w/ Premium Protective Cover

I just sent back my SonyPRS-300RC.

The reader itself works quite well.

But the required software interface, the Sony ebook library, apparently has compatibility issues with Vista.

Intermittently, and finally permanently, the ebook transfer from the library onto my ereader caused a window to pop up saying: "ebook reader has stopped working." I tried removing the hidden/system attributes from my ebooklibrary.exe so it could be added to the DEP exclusions list, but that didn't work. Temporarily turned off my Norton protection, too, but that didn't help, either.

My plan for the future is to wait until these issues are resolved. I must say, I resent being essentially a Beta tester for an ereader.

For now, it's back to real books for me.

Product Description:
Sony's compact digital book, the Reader Pocket Edition features a 5 inch, paper-like display that delivers an easy-on-the-eyes reading experience. Side-button navigation also ensures seamless reading with right and left-hand side page advance buttons.

Leave the dusty library at home; with 512MB of onboard memory there's enough space to store up to 350 books on your Reader at once. Sony also gave this digital book compatibility with both PC and Mac. Both systems support the easy to use eBook Library 3.0 software for managing your book collection. Supported formats include the industry standards, ePub and PDF.

On a full charge the Pocket Edition will last for up to two weeks of reading (or 7,500 continuous page turns). Charging, and transfer of eBooks, is done through your computer's USB port with the included USB cable.

Review of M-Edge GO! Genuine Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle), Smooth Mocha Brown

This cover is for all intents and purposes 100% perfect. Why I received my package (cover and Kindle) I first opened the cover. After looking it over I then opened the Kindle and put it straight in the case.

Putting the Kindle in the case is very easy. All you need to do is align the bottom prong on the cover with the bottom slot on the side of the Kindle. Once you put that one in you then align the top prong and slot, slide the prong down, insert, and release.

The top prong is spring loaded. This ensures that the Kindle is held in snugly but can still be taken out of the case with ease.

As you may notice, this cover is very similar to the Amazon cover but is far superior for one reason. Inside the cover it has two corner straps opposite the pronged edge and yet it is still the same price as the Amazon cover!

This is a pretty big deal. One thing that has been known to happen is a person picking up their Kindle and cover and then opening up the 'Back' flap of the kindle cover. Because the prongs are attached to the back flap, and the Kindle is attached to the prongs the plastic around the prongs cracks. With the straps within the M-edge cover will not arise.

The rundown -

- Pros -
* It's leather - One person said it smells funny. It smells like leather and leather oil
* Price - $29.99, thank you!
* Perfect fit - Other M-edge covers have a large spine so they can hold their special book-light. This one is plain and simple!
* Secure - It has straps!

- Cons -
* It doesn't do the dishes? Nope, guess I still have to do them.

This is a perfect 5/5

Review of CaseCrown Amazon's Kindle 2 Kindle International Double Memory Foam Case With Front Pocket (Antique Map)

My original Kindle fell victim to a fall while housed in the cover it came with as well as being in a tote bag.I was very sad.

So when I purchased my Kindle 2... I looked for the most protective cover I could find. This is awesome!!!It's very well padded, and I love the extra outer compartment for the power cord & ear buds.Being a little overly protective, I also purchase a SILICONE GEL SKIN for my Kindle 2.
[...]

I put it in the gel skin first, then put it in the outer cover. There's no slipping for the Kindle now.

Can you tell I'm not loosing another Kindle to a fall?Best wishes for keeping your Kindle safe!

Review of M-Edge e-Luminator2 Kindle DX Booklight (Fits 9.7" Display, Latest Generation Kindle DX)

Like other reviewers, I too have this light as well as a "Mighty Bright". For a fair comparison of these two lights it is important to mention the advantages as well as the limitations of each respective lights. As is appropriately named, the "Mighty Bright" certainly out-shines (no pun intended) the e-illuminator when comparing light intensity and coverage area of the DX screen. The intensity is subjectively twice as bright as the e-illuminator and the Mighty Bright light easily covers the entire area of the DX screen. The light intensity of the e-illuminator is barely passable in terms of reading and is certainly "OK" for short periods of time (perhaps an hour or so) but for prolong periods of reading in the dark most peoples' eyes would tire. The coverage area of the screen is also just barely passable for the e-illuminator; no matter how you try to position the light there remains a small area of the screen that, while it is still possible to read, it is a bit annoying because it is constantly in the shadows.

On the other hand, the advantages of the e-illumintor over the Mighty Bright is obvious. For thoseM-edge covers that are compatible with the light, the light is housed nicely within the cover without any bulges in the cover.Additionally, the cover is designed in such a manner that there is also little danger that the light will accidentally scratch the DX screen.Convenience of housing this light safely within the cover is the one and only advantage of this light.

The bottom line: if the convenience of the e-illuminator light out-weighs all your other considerations then this is the light for you. However if convenience takes a "back seat" to readability, then stick to the Mighty Bright or something similar. I think I will use my e-illuminator solely for travelling purposes but will keep my Mighty Bright for more routine use. What is your priorities?

My rating? 3 stars for "use" (readability) and 5 stars for convenience so I guess this averages out to a 4.

The M-Edge e-Luminator2 booklight is the ultimate accessory for the Amazon Kindle. Based on the input of loyal M-Edge customers, this custom designed booklight has been developed to work seamlessly with the M-Edge Executive, Platform, Latitude and GO! Jackets for Latest Generation Amazon Kindle DX. The powerful light features a super-bright LED light bulb which provides ample illumination for the screen of the Reader screen while a mirrored reflector and optical quality lens disperses the light uniformly. The light is powered by a standard AAA battery (not included) with endurance enough for more than 20 hours of operation without dimming. The light is operated by a three position switch with two light intensity settings.A flexible and resilient steel neck allows the user to position the light in the desired direction.Perhaps the most impressive feature of this light is that it is designed to be stored via a slim support arm sized to match a pocket sewn into the back of many of M-Edge Jackets for the Amazon Kindle. The light pocket is conveniently located behind the Reader and does not interfere with the use of the Reader. When in the storage position, the light is located conveniently in the spine of the jacket so you can easily bring your light while on the go (for our Executive and Platform jackets). Review of M-Edge GO! Genuine Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle), Pebbled Purple

I got my cover last night and am delighted with it:
* The leather is a nice quality (particularly for the price) and the product seems very sturdy.
* The contrasting edge stitching is nicely done.
* The lining is nice to the touch.
* It took me a minute to figure out that the top clip on the left hand side moves so you can insert or remove your Kindle - other than that, no problems.
* The bands on the outside edge are elastic with coordinating leather on the part that actually goes across the top of the Kindle. They slide off easily when pushed, but the clips on the inside keep the Kindle from moving around, or slipping out if those straps are off.
*All of the buttons and jacks are easily accessible.
Wish it were available in jade green like some of the other M-Edge covers, but that's my only wish.

I really like this skin.My hands shake quite a bit and I was able to apply it straight and no bubbles by myself. It is a very durable sticker that is easy to move until you get it in just the right spot.Fits great, lines up well.Makes the kindle feel less "slick" when holding it with the skin on.I was a little disappointed in the shipping time (took longer than I thought it should, because once I decided which skin I wanted I could hardly wait to get it and put it on) but well worth the wait.

Review of Sony Reader Pocket Edition PRS-300RC/B - eBook reader 5" E Ink ( 800 x 600 ) - rose

I am not a gadget person but this device has me hooked.I chose the SOny despite husbands objection since I didnt get top of the line.LOL.But I wanted something basic like a book and didnt need all the frills. Not to mention I wanted to see if I liked it and would use it before plunking down money.I did a lot of research and decided this was the way to go versus the kindle that is woefully lacking in diversity as far as shopping for books.I have downloaded SIX free books from the sony book store, and one was a popular book for $2.99.I also went on my public library and looked at afew books.Google I havent tried yet but how appealing to have millions of books available for FREE.Yes, I cant wirelessly download books, which with my luck, I'd screw up the download, rare weather phenomena would occur to mess up the download or Amazon would hide it or delete it.Ha ha ha...I prefer the old fashion way.

One thing I did notice was when I put software on imac, it ran kind of choppy, not seamless. Then I put software on my netbook and it ran flawlessly. But when I tried imac again, it wouldnt recognize my reader. So think twice if you really want it on the imac.I am sure I can purge and try it again, or rather tech savvy husband can do it, but since it ran so nice on the netbook, I'll just keep it that way.

I love the pink, I loved the clutch. Not sure if I will read the four free books on there, but in case of dire boredom, maybe.

I just cannot believe how someone who swore that nothing could replace the love of pages and paper and ink would get hooked so fast.Maybe it's the instant book, which is dangerous.$50 on books already!Yikes....

Review of Sony Reader Digital Book with touch screen - PRS700BC

I had a Sony reader PRS-505 for a year then bought the new PRS-700 model.
The new model comes with a touch screen put over the letter screen, allowing to turn pages back and forth with swiping motion like iphone. As a result there are fewer buttons for control; a stylus is provided to highlight or search words and make notes.
A little drawback: The added layer of the touch screen causes the underlying letters to appear slightly foggy. However, unless you have a previous model next to the new one to compare, you wouldn't notice it. The appearance of the letters is still excellent. The new PRS 700 offers LED lights around the screen to allow reading in a dark environment. It is slightly thicker and comes in one color. (black). It can now take up to 8G SD card instead of 2G. The grey scale is 8; the resolution is 170 psi---no change from previous model.I upgraded to the new model after thinking about the slightly diminished appearance of the ink letters; I am very happy with the purchase.

Review of 3.5 mm White Earbud Headphones for Amazon Kindle 2 E-Book Reader & Apple iPhone

Product arrived with only one side working.Amazon can't replace, only refund... very disappointing and a waste of time for me.Ideally, a new one should be sent out with a return slip. The customer would be charged only if the defective product was not returned in two weeks.

Review of Aluratek LIBRE eBook Reader PRO - eBook reader - SD 2 GB 5" - white

I just got this reader a couple of days ago and have done some reading in several of the different formats. With the latest firmware update from Aluratek, you can read Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) epub and pdf files, which means you can download new releases from stores such as Sony, and soon Barnes and Noble. I have downloaded one ebook from Sony, and it displays well. The downside is that it doesn't seem to have as good a variation in font size as do the books that came on the SD card and the few books I downloaded from free sites. To be more specific, the fonts go from tiny, to still slightly too small if its a bit dim in the room, to outrageously huge. I don't know if its the particular book I bought, the Sony store, or coincidence or what. I have looked at pdf, fb2, and epub, and listened to mp3. I would like the ability to keep a few audiobooks on it, but overall I am satisfied.

However, I don't like the white color that I got. I would recommend the black one, or if you don't want black then maybe one of the different colored jetbooks. The plastic casing is better quality than what I was afraid I would be getting, and the reader feels solid and well made. The white casing makes the greenish gray tint of the background a little more apparent than what some of the other colors probably do, however. The screen is very nice, and the words are very nice and crisp.

Review of Quest Design Protective Decal Skin Sticker for Amazon Kindle 2 E-Book Reader (Version 2.0)

Well the skin doesn't go all the way to the edges like it shows in the picture so it actually looks like I've put a skin over my kindle instead of looking like it's part of the kindle design but that can be overlooked.Other than that I'm happy with it.It was super easy to apply, the rubbery feeling of the skin makes the kindle 2 easier to hold as I found it so slim and sleek that it actually slipped out of my hands every once inwhile. It also helps to keep it snug in it's case without slipping and I tried peeling the skin back to make sure it wasn't going to leave a nasty sticky residue on my kindle.I was pleased to find that, not only was there no residue, but the skin adhered right back as it was regardless of being pulled up.I know with other electronic items with white plastic that eventually your skin oils start to discolor the casing and when you clean it the finish in those frequently touched areas becomes matte and looks different from the rest of the case. With this I won't have to worry about that, and when this skin starts looking used and messy it's affordable enough to get another one or, since there is no residue, I can remove it and my kindle will still look good as new...which is great for resale value should I want to upgrade to the kindle 3 if they come out with one in the future.Overall I'm pleased, I just wish the outer border was a little thicker so it covered all the way to the edge.

Review of Sony PRS-600 Electronic Book Reader in Black w/ Premium Cover and AC Charger Adapter

The video includes a few of my favorite features on the Sony, but misses things like the dictionary and audio options - since you can use up to a 16g SD chip - it is also possible to carry some of your albums with you, permitting the reader to substitute as an mpg player as well.

This particular model comes with the cover AND the A/C Adapter - which is why the price is a bit higher, but it is a great option. The 600 comes with a little clutch bag instead of a cover, and most of us have discovered that a cover is necessary. It not only protects the screen, but it is the best way to clip on a light if you are reading in a dark location.

Since the Sony comes with a USB connector that also charges it, some do not feel the A/C adapter is necessary, but it was my first purchase after I bought the Sony! I plug it in at night (just like I do my cell-phone and other necessary items) and it is always fresh to read in the morning. The A/C adapter is also essential when I am traveling, since I do not always have my laptop available to charge it. While the Sony has 7,000 page turns on the battery, I read in large print, meaning I turn the pages quite frequently, and can't go more than 2-3 days without a charge.

If you prefer to purchase a cover and charger separately, there is actually no savings to the package deal. However, if you are purchasing this as a gift, including everything as a package is a very nice idea.

I have been following the e-book readers for some time, and I wanted several things for me to "jump on the bandwagon."

1) I have a number of PDF reference books, so a Reader needs to handle these well. Since my books are text, these reflow well on the Sony.

2) Because I will use (and now am using) the Reader for reference books, it was important that I be able to access my notes directly from my computer to use in other documents. I actually began using the software on my desktop several months before I purchased the 600, and was pleased with its capabilities.

3) I enjoy the free epub books from my library. The Sony accesses these easily. There are also a number of locations besides Sony selling the epub or Adobe digital books (usable by the Sony Touch) giving me more choice in my decision.

4) The Touch handles my regular documents well - as a public speaker, I love having my speeches available to study on the reader, without having to print them out!

But for those looking for the points I already love (thus the 5 stars)
1) I love having the touch turn capability, just a brush of my thumb!
2) I enjoy the sideways and zoom features for PDFs that you want to keep "standard"
3) After only a couple of minutes, I forgot I was even using a reader and I got involved in the book.

*** I live in an isolated area - so neither Whispernet for the Kindle nor the upcoming 3G connection on the more expensive Daily model would be helpful - I'm just as happy to order my books "in advance" and carry them with me.

Some people have mentioned the glare - since my previous reading was on my laptop - this isn't an issue for me. I keep my lighting at my side, and it is not a problem at all. It is more noticeable in a dark room with a single light source. My favorite reading location is outdoors.

Another issue I have encountered isn't with the reader - but with the interaction between Windows and the software. It is pretty touchy, and I have had to use Sony Support to adjust settings on Windows to make it work correctly.

Review of Barnes and Noble NOOK ebook reader

UPDATE: 12/27/2009

Some will say that I am "premature" in putting this review out because I should be giving Barnes and Noble the chance to fix their device -- which they diligently appear to be trying to do. However, anyone contemplating the sale of the nook has a right to know how this reader operates NOW unless they are willing to spend 260 on promises of a eReader that does not do some of the simplest tasks (bookmarks) at the time of purchase. As improvements are made, I will continue to update the review.

......................

I love Barnes and Noble so was very excited to see them enter the ereader market.

Barnes and Noble was hoping that the shiny and colorful package would keep people from realizing that they rushed their reader to market without proper testing.

There have been so many problems with the Nook that they are already on their 3rd firmware update even though the first set of readers were only shipped 2 weeks ago. This, itself, is a problem because such frequent updates can cause additional quality issues -- break broken functionality (for example, bookmarks), and leaves nook owners in the position of having to beta test their 260 dollar reader.

After putting a nook through its paces at my local Barnes and Noble repeatedly (i.e. prior to the firmware updates and after firmware updates), the problems I found were many:

1. SLOOOOW -- page turns were much slower than ANY reader on the market.
2. SLOOOOW -- the navigation using the color LCD touchscreen is so laggy that you keep touching it thinking it hasn't accepted your input.
3. Bookmarks -- being able to save where you left off in the book is seriously flawed and only works a small percentage of the time -- if at all (introduced with the latest version 1.1.1 of the firmware)
4. User Interface -- something that would take you just a few button clicks on a Sony or a Kindle will take you 4-5 on the nook. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that the user interface was so SLOOOOW
5. Battery drain -- the battery will drain after just 3-4 days -- as opposed to 12-14 for a Kindle and even longer for a Sony... and that is with the Wireless turned off and the LCD panel dimmed.
6. Device frequently freezes and needs to be rebooted -- which is a problem when your bookmarks don't work.
7. Frequent firmware upgrades (with inadequate testing) which has the potential to cause further instability (such as the bookmark issue which was just introduced in version 1.1.1) which turns all nook owners into nook volunteer beta testers.

Advantages of the nook:
1. It's great looking -- though I find the LCD portion of the screen basically useless Eye Candy that doesn't add to the overall functionality of the screen.
2. Ability to "lend" a book -- however, this is a severely limited capability which many publishers are fighting and may not be available on many books. You can lend a book to only once to 1 person for 14 days -- but only if the publisher allows it. Like Kindle's text-to-speech "feature", most publishers are insisting that this feature be disabled.
3. Supports SD cards -- a major flaw in the Kindle in my humble opinion -- if for no other reason than it allows you to organize your files.
4. User-replaceable battery -- You'll need this considering the currently battery drain and need to recharge often associated with the current power management scheme. But at least you can have a spare on hand and not have to send it into be done for you -- another disadvantage of the Kindle.

The screen on the nook is very good but it uses the same manufacturer for its eInk screen that Kindle, Sony, Cybook and the rest of the eReader market currently uses so you would expect that to be pretty comparable.

To Barnes and Nobles' credit, they appear to be frantically trying to address many of these issues with firmware updates. The page-turn performance issues have already improved. However, at the pace that firmware updates are being made (at least 2 in one week) -- are you really interested in being a beta tester or do you just want to read books?

While the firmware updates have addressed some of the performance issues. However, I have been back to the Barnes and Noble store (It is one of my favorite haunts!) -- even checked that the firmware update there was present (it was) and still there were issues in terms of reliability, speed, and even ability to download books from within the store.

In fact, version 1.1.1 -- the current version as of this writing -- is actually a step BACKWARDS in terms of critical reading functionality:

1. The nook does not remember the last page that was read. This means every time one re-opens a book to continue reading, you must page forward one page at a time to get to where you left off reading.

2. Bookmarks only last until you open a new book or leave the book you placed the bookmark in. This makes the bookmarks worse than useless.

My review is intended to highlight some issues that buyers of an ebook reader should be aware of if they are considering the nook. Once the issues have been corrected, then I will update my review and increase the star rating.

Review of M-Edge GO! Genuine Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle), Smooth Black

I have an M-Edge Prodigy Cover but the flap that closes the cover always bugged me when reading on the Kindle. I almost bought the Amazon cover but didn't like the fact that it didn't have straps to hold down the right side of the Kindle. And now with the M-Medge Go, voila! It's just what I wanted. It's thin (no added bulk), and has the clip mounting system on the left and straps on the right to keep your Kindle securely in place. The cover folds all the way back, and the Brite Light clips onto the cover perfectly. One very minor complaint - wish they had more color choices. But overall, the cover is great and I highly recommend it.

Review of Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-900BC - eBook reader 7.1" E Ink ( 1024 x 600 )

I am an ereader freak -- I started out with the Cybook Bookeen, then moved onto the Sony PRS-505.Next came a Kindle 2, and then a Kindle DX.I've also played with the Cybook Opus and Sony PRS-700 and PRS-600.

Of those 4 readers, I have always felt that the Sony PRS-505 had the best screen of any ereader I have seen.Once Sony introduced the Sony 700 with their first touch screen, they took a HUGE step backward in terms of screen clarity.Since their bookstore was inferior to Amazon's, I felt like they gave up their marketing advantage.

When the Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device (9.7" Display, U.S. Wireless, Latest Generation) came out -- I reluctantly shelved my Sony Reader Digital book - Red (PRS505RC) despite still having a superior screen. There were 2 reasons for this:

1.Size of the screen -- I really like having more words per page and larger choice of fonts that the larger format reader affords

2.Content -- Amazon's content still can not be beat in terms of newer releases and cost of books.

However, I remained a Sony girl at heart at eagerly awaited the larger screen Sony PRS-900 dubbed the "Daily Edition".

Sony has come along way since their first dismal foray into the Touchscreen arena -- the clarity of the Sony PRS-900 is nearly as good as the PRS-505 and, in my humble opinion, even superior to the recently released PRS-600.The glare issue which the touchscreen seems to introduce has somehow been minimized and improved and therefore, those (including myself) that would never consider a touchscreen are eating a bit of crow now that Sony appears to have done a good job improving the screen clarity. The fonts associated with the Sony PRS-900 are better than the 505 which may have something to do with the perceived readability.

Sony has also included wireless access this time around -- ostensibly to compete with the Kindle. To me, the wireless access isn't that big a deal since I'm almost always near a computer and therefore, "sideloading content" is not burdensome to me.However, some consider this a big deal and the wireless does work as promised.

The Sony Store recently completed its conversion to EPUB -- Adobe's PDF-like DRM'ed reader format.EPUB is quickly becoming the defacto reader standard and with that comes some advantages:

1.Public Libraries have ebooks available for free using the EPUB format -- that means you can check books out for free and read them on your Sony -- something that is not available to Kindle users.(I don't know about the Nook since I believe they use a slightly modified version of EPUB DRM).

2.Many bookstores carry EPUB books so you are not locked into buying content only from the Sony store -- competition is good.

Now the not-so-good:

1.EPUB tends to have display issues that make it annoying to use.For example, page reflow and justification are often issues. However, on the larger format Sony -- some of these issues (like page numbers showing up to the side of the text instead of at the top or bottom) appear to have been corrected.

2.Even though there are LOTS of ebookstores out there that sell EPUB format books, the prices are still significantly higher and the availability of content for modern (i.e. copyrighted) titles still is not competitive with Amazon's Kindle.

The larger format of the Sony Reader is a welcome addition to the eReader world.Again, it makes a big difference (to me) being able to display more words per page and have a better choice of fonts. The touchscreen interface of the Sony PRS-900 is better than the Kindle interface. It is more portable than the DX -- however technical documents will still be better on the Kindle DX.For reading regular fiction, though, I think many people will find the 7.1 inch screen a good compromise between portability and use of real estate.

So should you buy a Kindle DX or a Sony PRS-900?(I'm assuming you are looking for a larger-screen reader so I'm not addressing Kindle 2, Sony PRS-600, or even the nook).

Like everything in life, the answer is "it depends"?What is more important to you?

1.Screen clarity and quality?Answer: Sony
2.Cost of purchasing newer copyrighted content?Answer:Kindle
3.Cost of device?Answer:Sony
4.Cost of maintenance?Answer: Sony (Sony has a user replaceable battery which is a good thing)
5.Ease of use?Answer:Its a push -- you'll quickly adapt to whatever reader interface you choose
6.Wireless access?Answer:Kindle -- mainly because having access to Amazon's bookstore is better than having access to Sony's bookstore and Kindle DX does give you a browser which can be very handy
7.Ability to display technical documents?Answer:Kindle
8.Ability to borrow books from the library?Answer: Sony
9.Ability to subscribe to periodicals? Its a push though the larger Kindle screen probably gives you a bit of a formatting advantage
10.Looks?Answer: (in my opinion) Sony

At this point, purchasing an eReader is a very personal decision and it will depend on what factors are most important to you.At this point, both the Sony and the Kindle provide excellent eReader experience and the good news is that you will probably quickly bond with whichever you choose (or if you don't, you probably aren't the type of person who is going to embrace eReader technology in the first place).

In the end, figure out those features that are most critical to you and pick your reader based on those features.Hopefully, this review gives you some idea of the pluses and minuses of the 2 primary large format readers currently on the market.

Oh, and if this isn't confusing enough for you -- wait until 2nd quarter of 2010 -- there are going to be some more excellent choices so if you can't make up your mind between Kindle vs Sony -- you'll really have fun going around in circles within the next few months.Just for fun, try googling iRex dr800sg (8.1" touch screen with a stylus interface and really gorgeous design) and Plastic Logic's Que e-reader (8.5 x 11 plastic screen with touch screen interface, ability to edit Office documents directly on the reader, and bigger and lighter than anything we've seen so far -- will be formally announced January 7th at the Consumer Electronics Show)

Review of Van Gogh - Starry Night Design Protective Decal Skin Sticker for Amazon Kindle 2 E-Book Reader (Version 2.0)

I purchased the Van Gogh Starry Night Protective Decal Skin Sticker for my Kindle 2 [it is only compatible with the Kindle 2, and not the Kindle 1]. It is described as a skin sticker, yet it offers reasonably good protection against stains [from holding the Kindle with one's hands], and from light wear. To further protect my Kindle 2, I also purchased the Amazon Kindle 2 leather cover which has offered much protection to it.

The Van Gogh Kindle Skin is beautiful and provides a measure of sophistication and light protection to an already sleek product. It is reasonably easy to apply - initially I did have some bubbles at the edges, but the skin is stretchy and I kept stretching it out at the edges to get all the bubbles out. It is also easily removable, and does not leave behind any sticky residue. Does the color of the gelskin sticker distract me from my reading? Well, it takes initial getting used to, and after that, I had no problems adjusting to it when I was reading.

All in all, this is a beautiful and practical way to protect one's Kindle 2, but I would also advise getting a cover to keep the Kindle in, such as the Amazon Kindle 2 leather cover [which I have and am happy with].

Review of M-Edge e-Luminator2 Kindle Booklight (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle)

Unlike some of the other reviewers to date, I actually bought one of the things and I have actually used it.I am not going to carp on features that it doesn't include. (e.g., "I'll NEVER get one of these until I can use it as a flash drive!", or , "BATTERIES?? Why doesn't it have a solar cell or a little windmill attached to it???)

Here are my observations about the e-Luminator 2 Booklight:

1.As you would expect, it is perfectly designed for the M-Edge Kindle 2 cover.I had no trouble inserting the base into the pocket, and it feels quite secure.
2.The gooseneck seemed a bit loose at first; that is to say, it wanted to droop a bit under the weight of the LED head.I twisted it a tiny bit in the clockwise direction and it tightened up.Not unusual for this kind of flexible shaft device and nothing that I am concerned about.
3.The battery fits quite snugly in the battery compartment.I suspect I'll have to give it a bit of a shake when it's time to replace the battery.Again, just an observation.
4.The swivel mechanism that allows the light to be stored along the spine of the cover is ingenious. It will be interesting to see how it holds up with repeated operation.
5.There are two light level settings controlled by a three-postion sliding switch on the LED housing.(The device is "OFF" in the center position.Frankly, I do not see a significant difference in the amounts of illumination provided by the higher and lower settings.I suppose one could use a light-meter and measure the difference, but I don't have that kind of time on my hands. My only other quibble here is the added complexity that a three-way switch brings to the device, but that's just me--I prefer simpler over more complex.
6.And now, the most important observation:it illuminates the Kindle text evenly without undue glare, once I learned to position it properly through some trial-and-error.When it is aimed correctly, there is no direct light "leakage" from the business end of the device. I've had other booklights that have half-blinded me, until I built little shields around the LED assemblies. This one does not unduly illuminate the surroundings, so it can be used in bed or on a plane at night without disturbing someone else who's trying to sleep.
7.It is unobtrusive visually. It does not interfere with operation of the Kindle navigation buttons or keyboard.
8.With the device tucked into the M-Edge cover's spine for storage, it adds some support to the spine and gives it a smoother, more "finished" look.
9.This light adds a tiny bit of weight to the Kindle 2/cover combo. The weight seems to be evenly distributed; the Kindle is well balanced whether the light is in use or in its storage position.

In short, this is another fine M-Edge product that enhances the Kindle 2 experience for me.Kudos to the product design and realization teams for jobs well done!

Review of Flores Agua Design Protective Decal Skin Sticker for Amazon Kindle 2 E-Book Reader (Version 2.0)

Fits the Kindle 2 perfectly. The backing is not adhesive, it's micro suction cups, neat technology. It stays very secure, I've never had a problem with it and use it daily on the subway and thrown into my backpack.
I broke my Kindle and had to remove it and put it on my new one (get the extended warranty for your Kindle)
Removal is a bit difficult and the cover can stretch if you're not careful. Mostly it was perfect, but in a couple places I stretched out the cover so that a corner sticks up a little. Nothing major, but I notice it when I use that button.

Review of 3.5 mm White Earbud Headphones for Amazon Kindle 2 E-Book Reader

I bought these to replace my Ipod earphones that broke. These were at least as good as those, and much cheaper than buying replacements from apple. My only quibble is that the L and R on the earphones fades off quickly - you can tell by feel though which ones go in which ear.
